Silverfish Removal and Treatment

Silverfish are a familiar sight in some older bathrooms and kitchens, but they can be eliminated completely. Some degree of damp is an essential requirement for silverfish to thrive, and the condensation caused by the use of a bath/shower or by cooking is often ideal. Silverfish removal works in part by removing the conditions that silverfish thrive in.

Silverfish are often seen as a minor inconvenience, but they are very unhygienic and can spread germs and bacteria; in part, because in the right damp conditions silverfish can breed very fast. Removal of the damp, mouldy conditions that attract these pests and improving ventilation is one massive step in removing them, but we also specialise in the immediate extermination and eradication of Silverfish.

Simple eradication of Silverfish alone is not effective; if the conditions that encourage a high moisture environment remain the same it is highly likely that the Silverfish will return. As part of your treatment, our award-winning team will work with you to exterminate the Silverfish and make your environment as damp-proof as possible.

How do you Identify Silverfish?

The silver/grey silverfish is around 12mm long, with a shape like a cigar and with three long bristles at the tail. Because they slide off smooth surfaces such as porcelain, enamel and tiles, they can often be seen most easily when they have become trapped in a bath or basin. The Bristol pest controller can eliminate a silverfish infestation and advise on effective long-term control.

How do I stop Silverfish from returning or showing up in the first place?

Any affected rooms or mouldy rooms that haven’t been infested or have been recently treated; but may attract Silverfish would greatly benefit from a dehumidifier if you haven’t tried this already. This will greatly reduce moisture in the air. Some other  methods that may help your silverfish situation include:

  • Ventilate closed rooms and attics
  • Eliminate standing water
  • Install an air ventilation system
  • Consider a bathroom fan in the shower area.

Silverfish thrive in humid environments, which is why they are most commonly found in bathrooms, attics, basements, sinks and even old mouldy books. By reducing humidity you reduce the likelihood of Silverfish appearing or returning to your environment.
